What is chronic pain?
Chronic pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with, or resembling that associated with, actual or potential tissue damage lasting longer than 3 months. It can occur:
- Without an identifiable cause
- Even after an injury has healed or been treated
The World Health Organization now recognizes chronic pain as an individual disease, rather than simply a symptom of another condition.
